A new membership package has been launched by NFU Scotland with the hopes of 'embracing' the next generation of farmers to shape future  agricultural policy.

NFUS has teamed up with the Scottish Association of Young Farmers' Clubs (SAYFC) to launch a membership scheme with the aim of inspiring more young to help shape policy and secure a sustainable and profitable future for Scottish agriculture.

The announcement was made at the union's AGM Conference in Glasgow on Thursday (February 6).

SAYFC members will be provided with a host of benefits, including discounted fuel cards, and two years of free membership.

They will have the opportunity to attend NFUS events such as its AGM and on-farm networking events while helping to influence priorities through various networks such as branches, committees and monitors.

John Davidson, chief executive at NFUS, said: "I am thrilled to announce the launch of our new SAYFC membership catergory.

"We are looking to grow and strengthen our membership by attracting young people in agriculture to join NFUS.

"Engagement with the next generation is crucial for the industry.

"Being a member, you will not only have access to all the resources, expert advice, events and discounts the union provides, but also have an opportunity to help shape and secure a sustainable and profitably future for Scottish agriculture.

"A future that many of our new members will champion and lead for decades to come.

Alistair Brunton, SAYFC national chair, welcomed the new membership opportunity.

He said: "I think this is a fantastic opportunity for our members to have their voices heard and be members of NFUS in their own right.

"It is refreshing to see that NFUS value the next generation, and we cannot thank them enough for their continued support.

"This must be the start of a long-term partnership, as it is vital that industry stakeholders collaborate as its now more important than ever that we stand together."
