Flags will fly at half mast at the council in respect to his career and life.

Leader of Herefordshire Council, Jonathan Lester, said: "On behalf of all councillors, I want to express our sadness at the death of Councillor Peter Jinman.

"Cllr Jinman was deeply respected by everyone at the council and in his own ward where he was a veterinary practitioner.

"He was also a past president of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and was Chairman of the Farm Animal Welfare Committee at Defra.

"His knowledge was applied with true dedication to his work and contribution to the Council, which benefited so many people.

"Peter will be sorely missed by all. Our deepest sympathies are with his family, friends and colleagues."

Mr Jinman ha qualified as a veterinary surgeon at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London in 1974.

In 2010, he relinquished his position as senior partner of a veterinary practice in Herefordshire to take up the presidency of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, but not before he had served as president of the British Veterinary Association from 2002-2003.

For his dedication and service, he was awarded fellowship status of the Royal Agricultural Societies, also admitted as a Freeman of the City of London, and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Farmers in 2019.

Bill Young, chief executive of Addington, said Peter had guided the charity with ‘strength, commitment and integrity'.

"Peter as chairman was my rock. I bounced everything off him as he was the best sound board anybody could have.

"Not only did he encourage me to grow the charity and increase public awareness, he also skillfully guided me with his wisdom, diplomacy and wealth of knowledge in all areas and quietly and effectively at times reigned me in when it was necessary.

"As a chairman and a person, he was everything I could have asked for and we are going to miss him massively. He has left a huge hole to fill.

"The Addington Trustees and staff offer our sincerest condolences and warmest wishes to Peter's much-loved wife Gill, children Charlotte, Phillippa and Henry, and grandchildren Harry, Lucy and Edward."
