Borderway UK Dairy Expo 2020 returns for the ninth year to the Borderway Exhibition Centre, Carlisle, Cumbria, on Saturday March 14.

With a total of 70 classes across seven breed sections and the British Friesian National Show, this year's judges come from Canada, the USA and across the UK.

And as well as the showing classes this year's event will also see the introduction of a farm health and safety zone where support service H and H Safety, will address several key themes to help improve farm safety.

H and H Safety is a support service for farm and rural businesses and visitors to UK Dairy Expo can listen to a series of presentations by industry experts. These will cover areas such as animal handling, equipment security, risk management tools, accident prevention, and first aid for farmers.

Mr Conroy markets cattle domestically and internationally and also owns about 90 Holsteins and Jerseys scattered throughout the US and several countries, along with a shared ownership of a small pedigree herd of Aberdeen-Angus.

Mr Conroy has judged or fitted cattle in 19 different countries throughout his career. Past judging assignments include the 2018 International Jersey Show, the 2016 International Holstein Show, the 2015 International Red and White Show, and the 2016 European National and Swiss Expo shows.

Brian Miller is part of a family partnership farming 182 hectares (450 acres) in Somerset. The family milks 240 Holsteins and 20 Brown Swiss cows averaging 10,500kg on twice a day milking and with 90 cows classified as Excellent in the Moorshard herd.

After completing an agricultural economics degree at Reading University, Mr Miller took responsibility for managing the cows at Moorshard alongside his father and grandmother.

The herd has been a finalist in Holstein UK's herd competition six times and showing has been regularly undertaken at national and regional level.

Mr Miller's judging career has taken him all over the UK and into Ireland on several occasions. Within the UK he has officiated at a number of county and regional shows including the 2018 Great Yorkshire Show, as well as the 2010 National Dairy Event, 2016 All Breeds All Britain Calf Show, and the the 2017 UK Dairy Day.

Showmanship classes

This year's showmanship classes will be judged by Amy Miller, who is from the home of Shanael Holstein's where her father, Michael, and two brothers, Paul and Steven, run a 600-cow dairy herd.

Ms Miller, a teacher, has herself won showmanship classes at the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show and the National Holstein show. She continues to play a big part in Holstein Young Breeders and is the West Midland co-ordinator.

She has competed in Holstein Young Breeders competitions in Canada and says one of her proudest showring memories was being part of the Rapid Bay Jersey team at the 2009 Royal Winter Fair in Toronto when Vandenberg Amedeo Gorgeous won supreme champion.
