Nearing the end of an extraordinary season, we can count ourselves lucky Covid-19 has affected our working lives much less than many. But then again, we have the weather to contend with.
We have seldom seen such diverse growth stages across our spring crops, much within individual fields. Especially where we have still had no meaningful rain.
Calling a halt to Skyfall drilling in mid-March, we have between zero and 30% of our planned wheat acreage in the ground.
A few drier interludes in late January and early February allowed us to get a bit more wheat drilled into our lighter land, along with much needed fertilisation and spraying. If we are lucky, we may end up with 40% of our planned winter wheat acreage.
