Farmers organise second event in London on November 19 in response to Chancellor's Budget

A group of farmers are organising a second event in London on November 19, in response to the changes to Inheritance Tax announced in the Chancellor's Budget.

They are urging farmers wishing to attend to register here. The organisers said the Metropolitan Police needs to understand the number of people looking to take part.

Budget

This event will be in addition to the mass lobby organised by the NFU where 1,800 farming members are expected to attend. Earlier this week the union confirmed their lobby had reached full capacity and they could not make it any larger.

Farmers Clive Bailye, Olly Harrison, Martin Williams, Andrew Ward and James Mils are planning a second event to accommodate those farmers that have not been able to register for the NFU event. The organisers stressed the event was 'complementary' to the NFU and there was 'no rivalry or agenda'.

Four locations 'being considered'

The logistics have not been confirmed, with location and timings still to be confirmed.

Speaking to Farmers Guardian, arable farmer and YouTuber Olly Harrison said there were four locations currently being considered and they are working closely with Metropolitan Police to agree on a location that is safe for the rally to take place.

They are also encouraging farmers to bring food donations with them as part of a mass drop off at a food bank. Details have yet to be confirmed on this.

'Working with Met Police'

"We are working with the Met Police. We might know more later this afternoon," he said.

Listen now:

Herefordshire arable farmer Martin Williams who is also one of the organisers said: "They have given us a green light for an event. It is London and happening on November 19, but we are waiting confirmation on site detail. The police said they will help close roads for us. It is going to happen, but people need to hang on a minute as we have only had 24 hours to sort it out."
