Farmers Guardian launches 'Save Britain's Family Farms' campaign to support industry following Chancellor's Budget announcement

Farmers Guardian, which is marking its 180th anniversary this year, has launched the campaign, 'Save Britain's Family Farms' to showcase what family farms deliver for the nation.

It hopes to start a national conversation about the wider benefits farming brings to society, from producing healthy, nutrient-dense food to being custodians of the countryside, protecting our much-loved and used landscapes, caring for the environment and wildlife, creating jobs and sustaining rural communities which form the rich tapestry of our beloved countryside.

Save Britain's Family Farms gives a voice to the families at the heart of home-grown food production, concerned about what the future holds for them and the next generation.

Farmers Guardian editor Olivia Midgley said: "Family farms are the beating heart of our countryside and what they provide goes so much further than the food we eat.

"Our campaign aims to move the conversation on from Inheritance Tax to a broader debate about how we value our food systems.

"What the debate around the Budget has highlighted is that there is still a huge disconnect between farming and the public and that the common misconception that assets equal wealth needs to be addressed."

Save Britain's Family Farms aims to:

Showcase family farms' contribution to society

Amend Inheritance Tax threshold to protect small family farms

Viable food producing industry will ensure a future for next generation

Encourage the public to buy British and support home-grown food production

The campaign supports the NFU's call on the Government to raise the threshold on the value of assets to which Inheritance Tax applies and Farmers Guardian will stand alongside the community in the NFU's demonstration to be held in central London on November 19.

Farmers Guardian has been at the heart of rural communities since 1844 and is built on a rich campaigning heritage, always championing the industry and fighting to ensure farmers' voice are heard.
