George Eustice has been reappointed Defra Secretary by new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Mr Eustice returns to the department after just one month outside it, following his sacking by former Prime Minister Liz Truss in September.

His appointment was not entirely unexpected, with Mr Sunak seeking to provide stability in Government in the wake of a turbulent few weeks.

Ranil Jayawardena, his predecessor and a big supporter of Ms Truss, stepped down before the reshuffle began.

Other prominent figures in the Boris Johnson administration such as Dominic Raab have also been brought back into the Government fold, while Jeremy Hunt, appointed by Liz Truss after Kwasi Kwartengs dismissal, remains at the Treasury as Chancellor.

Mr Eustice said: xxx

Farm groups have pleaded with Mr Sunak to provide some certainty for the rural economy and protect agricultural budgets.
