Keltec adds steerable front mower to range

Designed to eliminate uncut strips of grass when turning, Irish firm Keltec has added a steerable front mounted mower conditioner to its range.

With a cutting width of three metres, the angle of the mower in relation to the tractor is controlled via a ram which moves the whole unit through an arc of approximately 16 degrees. This is operated from a double acting spool valve in the cab, remaining under the control of the operator at all times.

The manufacturer says key to the ability of the mower to swing in either direction is its redesigned headstock, allowing lateral movement between the tractor and mower. The hydraulic suspension system is not affected by the new mechanism allowing for the same standard of ground tracking.

Italian firm Comer supply the cutter bar which features seven discs, each with two blades.

Crop is conditioned with forked steel tines and the degree of processing can be controlled by an adjustable steel hood. As an option, the end skirts can be folded hydraulically.

A double acting spool is needed for the steering mechanism and a single acting spool is need to lift the mower, which has a total weight of 1,440kg.

The new front mower joins the rest of the manufacturer's mower range which includes three metre mounted and trailed rear mo-co options and when used in conjunction with its exiting butterfly unit provides a 9.5m cut.

The new mower is priced at £18,976 (€21,000) and is available to order now, with delivery in 2021.
