Over £40,000 raised in charity farm event

Over 40,000 has been raised to help provide farmers with mental health support at a charity farm event. Maisie Tinwell reports.

A large charity event celebrating the Cnewr Estate’s 150th Annual Sheep Sale raised an impressive 40,040.40 for Cancer Research Wales and the DPJ Foundation.

Based in the heart of rural Wales, the bespoke fundraising event offered a wide variety of entertainment, from guessing where sheepdogs were located on pictures taken during gathering at the Cnewr Estate, to a raffle being drawn from a cement mixer. The event concluded with a sell out charity dinner and auction held at the Fedw Equestrian Centre, Llywel.

Support flocked in from the public, with the event list bringing over 350 people together from surrounding local communities.

James Lloyd said: “The event was tremendous and there was an extraordinary show of support from our community and further afield” before expressing his gratitude to all the businesses that supported the event, “in our attempts to raise a considerable amount for the charities.”

Mr Lloyd highlighted the success of the night, saying “The atmosphere was incredible and it was a heartening display of how rural communities come together.”

The DPJ Foundation, which supports mental health in the agricultural sector, focuses on providing support and spreading awareness of poor mental health and its impact in farming communities.

Kate Miles from the DPJ Foundation said: “This money goes towards helping those in need of mental health help and support in rural Wales, and we could not offer our services without fundraising events such as these.”

With the Cnewr Estate spanning 12,500 acres of rural Wales, across the mountainous Brecon’s, Mrs Miles said how important it was to have these opportunities that brought the community together.

Head of Income Generation for Cancer Research Wales, Rhodri Davies, said: “Generosity is in the DNA of every one of our supporters, just like research is in ours. Thanks to this generous donation, we can support the best cancer researchers and clinicians to make discoveries that will transform lives, none of which would be possible without the support of local communities across Wales.”

In the words of Mrs Miles: “Diolch yn fawr iawn!”
